Stray pallet

A pooled pallet that has left its owner's normal distribution channel.

Last reviewed October 27, 2026 by repallet.org editors.

PECO's Asset Recovery Program defines a stray pallet as one or a small quantity of PECO pallets that, for whatever reason, escapes PECO's normal distribution channel. Pallets moving between PECO's manufacturing customers and their retail clients, and pallets recovered through dock sweeps or contracted recovery, are not strays.

Strays end up at small retailers, in recyclers' yards and at the curb. PECO asks anyone holding them to set them aside and contact its recovery group, and its April 2023 letter describes a per-pallet recovery payment for strays, set by PECO.

A stray pooled pallet still belongs to its owner. Selling it, scrapping it or burning it can break state marked-pallet laws as well as the owner's terms. See found a pooled pallet.
