MTCO2E
Metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, the common unit for greenhouse gas totals.
MTCO2E means metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Gases other than CO2, such as methane and nitrous oxide, are converted to the amount of CO2 with the same warming effect over a set period, using global warming potentials, and added up.
EPA's WARM and Hub factors for pallets are expressed in MTCO2E per short ton of material: a metric unit of emissions per US unit of waste. That mix is deliberate, because US waste data are reported in short tons. Multiply short tons of pallets by the factor and you get metric tons CO2e directly.
The Hub's Table 9 notes that its waste factors use AR4 global warming potentials. If your inventory uses a different assessment report's values elsewhere, note the difference. See short ton.
